It is with great pleasure and tremendous thanks that I am sharing the huge success of this year's "Quizine for a Cause". Everyone who participated in the various committees worked tirelessly to put on a wonderful event, and their efforts came shining through. Also, thank you to all Gilead program staff for participating in donating the baskets and auction items which were very impressive. In celebrating 40 years of Gilead providing high quality mental health services to individuals and families in Middlesex County, Almost 250 guests were hosted at 20 dinner parties at homes and restaurants around town, after which participants converged on Wesleyan University’s Beckham Hall for dessert, coffee, a highly competitive trivia event, and the benefit auction.
The event attracted a diverse crowd, which included Brenda Simmons Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Lisa Sartorius President of the Lupus Foundation of American, CT Chapter and Richard Weinstein Vice President of West Hartford’s Harris, Adelberg & Strauss Insurance Agency. Others in attendance included It’s Only Natural chef and owner, Mark Shadle, ex-mayors Maria Holzberg and Dominque Thornton, town councilors Phil Pessina and Ron Klattenburg, Community Health Center founder Mark Masselli, and WWUH radio host Ed McKeon.
As you know, Quizine for a Cause is the fundraising event that raises critical funds for the clients we serve and supports their road to recovery This money is used throughout the year to fund life changing experiences as well as necessities that most of us are fortunate enough to take for granted. People really appreciate the work Gilead does in the community, and once a year, this event demonstrates that.
Norma, a Gilead client who spoke at the event said “Gilead is my family, they helped give me what I have in life. They’re number one.” which really sums it up for me.
Even in these tough and uncertain financial times, people donated beyond our expectations. We raised a total of $37,500 which is a testament to all of your hard work and dedication to our clients and mission.
